Plane Jain's Corner
Welcome to my blog. I'll be posting updates at least once a week. I will share new recipes, adding websites with tools for teachers, sharing pictures of the cats in the household and possibly some snapshots from the rose garden. I began to research ponds for a children's book. I may also post interesting tid-bits that I find. Enjoy browsing!

Well, once again over a year..... and I said I would maintain this blog much more often. I've moved into this house on a very quiet street. I'll update the photo as improvements are made. It doesn't look like this now as a few improvements have been made since this photo was taken. Still have plenty of work to do on it before it's completely finished. I'm now down to 2 cats at home. My oldest one, Silme' went to stay with my parents. I still have Mistoffelees and Navi. The two are buddies.
Meanwhile, I have a grand-daughter now 8 months old named Lillian Olivia. She is a joy. She's been pulling herself up and walking while holding onto things and loves to play.
I hope to be back soon, with more pictures and updates.

Amost a year's gone by!!!
WOW!!! Almost a year since my last post. I guess time really does fly. I'll be moving into my own home soon with 3 cats! The kitten in my profile photo is now a little over a year old. Though he's compact, he weighs a ton!!! To think he was just 3 pounds when I got him! Also looking forward to becoming a Grandma in December. I'll be hosting bible study in the upcoming months and will need to hone some culinary skills. So, the really tasty recipes (if I can remember) will be posted here too.

The Shed
Went to the Shed this weekend for the first time with friends. Pretty good BBQ! Their prices are about average for Bar-B-Que dining out. FILLING, I had to take some home. The meat falls right off the bone...as it should. You can also order your sauce on the side if you'd like. Good dining atmosphere...very casual...just missed the blues band, so I can't comment on the live music in the evening. The music in the background was good though, and not too loud.
The company I was in was of course the best part. If you want a casual dining out experience with the family and like good BBQ this is a pretty good choice.

New Recipe -- Mahi Mahi fillets
This weekend I tried Mahi Mahi fillets with Raw Broccoli Salad and baked sliced potatoes with onion. Not bad. The texture of the Mahi Mahi is more like tuna or salmon. The flavor is realatively neutral, not "fishy" at all. The Raw Broccoli Salad was delicious. It consists of broccoli, a little red onion, sunflower seeds, dried cranberries, a little mayonnaise and cider vinegar. The potatoes were simple: sliced potatoes, sliced onion, olive oil, and favorite seasoning. Wrap in foil and bake at 400 degrees. The Mahi Mahi was simple too. A 1/2 cup Dale's low sodium seasoning per 2 fillets marinaded in the refrigerator for about 10 minutes. In the meantime, cut up tomatoes and some shallots to top it with, then in the oven at 375 degrees for about 20 minutes. (I need to check the cook time for accuracy. I'm pretty sure it was 20 minutes.) With prep time, a tasty meal in about an hour. (Not bad for home cooked!)

Friday, August 13, 2010

This evening I will be able to post some pictures of my favorite pals...the cats! I may even get some pictures of rain-drenched roses.
It's time to pull out the old recipe books and get cooking. I'll pick my favorite from the week and post it on the blog too.
I will be putting some of my own photos in the Slideshow soon! Meanwhile, enjoy the sunsets!!

My first post
I start the South Beach Diet tomorrow and will post here and there on progress.
Spring is on its way here, and time to plant and garden. (and UGH Spring cleaning!) We got some sapplings, (look more like sticks right now, not very exciting) I'll post pictures here as they grow. We got a couple of Magnolias, a Dogwood, Bald Cedar...I forget the rest.
